An ocean gate providing 50% of the national port traffic and through which products are exported from a rich but outlying hinterland. Tamatave is the result of a story full of events of importance but above all a courageous struggle of the populations whose tenacity has overwhelmed the difficulties and climatic hazards to make the city a modern city with a welcoming face.

Mahambo is located about 86km from Toamasina. With a beach opening onto a bay and lagoon, it is surrounded by more vegetation than previous cities.
